Heidi Carlsen: Biography
I have been an educator, theater director and performance artist for over 20 years. I've had opportunities to study and teach somatic movement, dance, voice and theater in diverse settings from art centers to colleges. I've worked and performed in Poland, Norway, Germany and South Africa.
In 2007/8 I received a Fulbright Fellowship to Poland focusing on embodied movement and voice. There I studied the writings of Jerzy Grotowski, taught workshops in improvisation, acting, voice and contemporary dance. I wrote and produced my own work.
My studies in theater and the arts led me to the Feldenkrais Method. I have a deep commitment to finding and teaching freedom of expression as well as reducing pain. Shifting physical and mental blocks, allows authenticity to flourish. This powerful potent self is uniquely realized through the Feldenkrais Method.
I completed my Feldenkrais training at the Feldenkrais Institute of New York and had the pleasure of studying with many of the best Feldenkrais Trainers from around the world. Through the Feldenkrais Foundation, I taught Awareness Through Movement in senior centers with a focus on pain relief and developing flexibility and balance.
More specifically, I bring a lifetime of movement: contemporary dance, ballet, Aikido, Yoga, movement for actors and Linklater Voice work to my Feldenkrais practice. Embodying characters and telling stories is my life.
Currently, I am also teaching Feldenkrais at AgeSong Assisted Living Centers and at Sausalito Healing Arts.
I enjoy working with all people who are interested in improving their function and living more fully.
