Many people think of their ‘rib cage’ as fixed and when they try to move, it feels like iron. The movement of the ribs, including with the breath, are mediated by and can profoundly influence the movement of the spine. And finally, our breath is always with us – as we sleep, swim, meditate, express ourselves and with everything else we do.

In this workshop we will work with this three-way relationship of ribs, spine and breath, exploring out how to integrate the ribs into all your FI lessons. This will include:

  • ways of working with the front, back and sides of the ribs with your client in supine, prone and sidelying

  • ways of inviting the breath into all parts of the chest how to turn the ribs and spine together, as well as how to articulate the ribs at the spine and sternumhow teaching a client to breathe in all directions helps them organize the spine
  • how the fascial ‘straps’  of the chest can restrict the movement of the ribs and how to influence them to provide more comfort for your clients.

To support your learning, each day will include relevant ATM lessons from the Alexander Yanai materials, the group will be small – a maximum of 10 students, and there will be study notes and plenty of time for questions.
